Temple of Cayochan

Overview
Ancient temple deep in the Chultan jungle, off the Soshenstar River, hidden by a millennia-old magical fog. The party reached and cleared it in session 9.
Exterior
- Ringed by ancient cloaking fog (cast millennia ago; Bodius pierced it with Detect Magic on blue wisps)
- ~30-yard antechamber of open space with plants funneling toward the doors
- Two giant flanking trees
- Stone double doors with a crack between them
- Two bust-sized stone dragonfly statues with gargoyle tongues (reactive — tongues wiggle when the inscription is touched)
Password: Speak “Shagoleth” (Aldani word for spider) to enter. Isilrod’s smoke spider wasn’t sufficient — needs the actual word spoken. Smoke spider did reanimate and open the door once the party committed to the word.
Aldani curse: Those blessed by the Chwinga cannot enter — to protect them from vainglory. Isilrod is permanently locked out of this and any other Aldani-blighted space.
Interior
- Stone tunnel with vines, empty torchholders, cobwebs
- Pit trap: 20-foot-wide spike pit triggered by a pressure plate (Faf hit it). Wooden spikes at bottom — Bodius Eldritch-blasted them into calcified uselessness. Party crossed using Bonzo’s raven flight + rope.
- Inner chamber: Throne room. Stone and vine. An undead owlbear variant was enthroned.
What Was Inside
- Undead owlbear (man-bear-pig variant) — defeated. Mosquito’s remains found inside its stomach, along with a letter to Flea (Mosquito’s kid) signed with “f.” Mosquito is confirmed dead.
- Golden statue — cylindrical, pure gold, 8 spider eyes on its face. Non-magical (Detect Magic confirmed). ~kidney-sized. Now in Bodius’s pocket. Could fetch ~10,000 GP in Baldur’s Gate.
- Boulder trap — triggered on statue removal. Portal above throne, boulder filled the tunnel. Party barely escaped; Faf took 25 damage from a clip (beard partially shorn).
- Ring with “f” underside — silver, found with Mosquito’s remains. In Bodius’s pocket.
What Shago Wanted
Shago was Chwinga-blessed and could never enter. He sent Mosquito in; Mosquito died. He then manipulated Lilith into guiding the party here to do the same. He was waiting outside when the party emerged. Now dead.
