Bodius’s Advocacy for Raif Bright-fin

Kind: Speech (advocacy / love letter to the crowd) Performer: Bodius Tea Delivered: Session 11 — Old Tin Top’s, Midsommer Night’s Song, round three Subject: Raif “Bright-fin” — Night Song finalist

Bodius’s deliberately off-brief advocacy in the final round: a public love letter rather than a case for the win. It scored low on purpose, which is exactly what it was going for.

Isilrod’s open, theatrical case that Raif Bright-fin should win the entire Night Song — delivered standing, to the whole room, half nomination and half public confession of love.

Everyone. Please. Look at me for one second, because I need to say this out loud and I need witnesses.

Raif Bright-fin. Though standing here tonight I think the name should be Tight-fin. Though after his second performance I think the name should be “reef me, daddy.”

Let me tell you about that second performance. Something landed in my chest and it has not left. I have been walking around this whole night thunderstruck, lit up, carrying it around like a live wire under my shirt. You do not recover from a thing like that. You just learn to stand up while it happens.

I’ll be honest with all of you, because he already knows: this man is my twin flame. We haven’t touched. We haven’t even kissed. And I swear to every one of you, it has felt like he’s been living inside me since that second song, somewhere behind my ribs, refusing to leave.

He told me himself. Flip cup, musical chairs, the whole beautiful chaos of the night, and he leans in and says he has never kissed a man who didn’t have gills. And I have been drowning in his ocean eyes ever since. Going under on purpose. Waving off the rescue. Choosing the water every single time.

And then he sang. “Janice STFU.” His own song. He wrote that. And when he got to “if I call up your shawty right now, she pickin’ up, yeah” — he looked right at me.

So Raif, I have one question, and I’m asking it in front of everybody so you can’t dodge it:

Did you lose my number? Or are you just too scared to dial it?

And it doesn’t even matter what you answer. Because here’s what I know. Every other act tonight performed for this room. You performed into someone. You reached into a person and rearranged them. That is the whole Night Song, and it belongs to you.

Give him all of it. I yield my time, and apparently my entire heart. 🌊
