Allies & Organizations

  • Syndra Sylvane — sheet notes “Cyntra/Syndra”; hot older high elf, friend of Throbbin, guided the party toward Chult
  • Captain Ortimay Swift — terse, kind of a dick
  • Dr. Jack Aubrey — studies Chult
  • Flea — ship hand, very talkative; Mosquito’s kid
  • Throbbin Mistwillow — bard ally and occasional chaos agent
  • Old Fence or Patron of the Lower City — underworld connections, smuggling routes, intelligence
  • Arcane scholar / mentor figure — possible future help deciphering planar techniques in Bodius’s art
  • Survivors from the family network — loyal to Bodius’s family memory, cautious but potentially helpful

Current Notes

  • Ritual components written on the sheet: heart of a dragon, tears of an angel, and milk of a faerie. These are for curing Mina Aubrey’s vampirism, not the Death Curse.
  • Party note: Isilrod Gurglestrom is the dwarf bard; Bonzo Nutley is the monk / bean-farmer’s son; Faf D’Gnarwol is the fighter.
  • Map/quest note: find Throbbin’s friend Syndra Sylvane; “Syndra please send Clarky, I have a message.”
  • The arrow shaft that killed Throbbin bore the same algiz rune: “of the Symposium.”
  • Bodius owes “Bombitduuhm” / Balm Bitdoom.
  • Magic faerie clue: “trust the numbers”; the location of the Death Curse lies within Chult.
  • Death Curse location sequence from the sheet: red dragon, medusa, eagle.
  • Sheet note: “Light a candle to the milk and that will show him (Dr. Aubrey) the way.”
  • Session 14 dream: during a long rest in Wyrmheart Mine, Bodius saw his family roughly ten years earlier. His father taught him the stars, his mother served Sunday boiled hot dogs, and they watched a ball game until a rumbling scream woke him.
  • Hours later, Siegfried’s hoard contained the Bodius Family Painting, depicting that exact hearth, meal, and reflected ball game.
  • Bodius used Hexblade’s Curse and Hex before throwing the Jug of Living Lightning into Siegfried. The transcript does not establish whether the jug survived.

Personality

  • Observant and measured. Rarely speaks without first understanding who holds power in the room.
  • Refined manners, Lower City instincts. Knows how to behave in salons and how to disappear in alleys.
  • Creative under pressure. Improvises rather than panics when cornered.

Ideals

  • Control through understanding. Power is most dangerous when wielded blindly; knowledge is how it is mastered.
  • Cultural preservation over possession. Art belongs to the people who live it, not those who merely own it.
  • Vengeance with purpose. Revenge without truth is just noise.

Bonds

  • Family legacy. Their names were erased, but their work will endure.
  • Book of Shadows. Contains more than spells; it is a record of unfinished works and stolen futures.
  • Patron’s promise. They know who destroyed his family. He intends to hold them to that knowledge.

Flaws

  • Distrust of institutions. Wealth, authority, and tradition failed his family once; assumes they will again.
  • Selective honesty. Reveals only what serves the moment.
  • Fixation on the past. Sometimes chases answers that offer no immediate benefit.

Backstory

Born into a well-regarded High Elf family of art dealers in Baldur’s Gate. Raised among priceless artifacts, private collections, and carefully curated lies. Meant to inherit the business, but drawn to the Lower City instead: its living cultures, hidden markets, and the subtle skills needed to survive there. Learned the trade of thieves, fences, and forgers alongside the language of fine art.

Possessed a strange talent: creating works infused with a form of dimensional magic he barely understood. Word spread.

One night, a powerful figure attempted to steal both his creations and him. He escaped. His family did not. Their home, legacy, and names were burned in a single night.

In the aftermath, something found him. His patron knows truths about who orchestrated the massacre and why his work matters. They promised power to survive, learn, and eventually take revenge. In return, he continues developing his craft and accepts commissions whose purpose he does not fully understand.

He does not yet know why his creations are coveted. He only knows someone killed his family to possess them.
