Session 3: The Milk Maiden’s Voyage

Previously on…

The Brazen Pegasus entered MarshSwamp Pass, where Bonzo and Dr. Aubrey separately entered Calypso’s cabin. A Red Wizard attack followed, Captain Ortimay Swift was killed, and the fight carried into the new session with one goblin still on Isilrod’s back.

What happened

The SwampMarsh battle ended with Bonzo suffocating the final goblin in a triangle choke. The party looted the bodies, collected ears and noses as trophies, and gained small spoils: Isilrod received a jaw harp, Bodius received a ring from the Red Wizard, and the others took coin.

The crew gave Captain Swift a sea burial the next morning. Isilrod played bagpipes in mourning, Bodius brought fireworks from the sea, and grief transformed into revelry to “Thunderstruck.”

Faf won Flea’s adoration in a competitive game of Goblin Tossing, essentially bocce with a goblin head. Around the same time, the party extracted three drops of Witch Milk from the dead Red Wizard, bringing their rare milk supply from one to two.

After the funeral, LeGrand and Syndra Sylvane called Isilrod and Faf to the captain’s quarters to appoint a new captain. Faf insisted Throbbin’s Goblins were all for one and one for all, so the whole party joined the discussion. Syndra and LeGrand offered the ship to the party collectively. Faf immediately tried to extort more value from the gift, so they withdrew the group offer and made Isilrod sole captain, with a fine captain’s hat.

The party renamed the Brazen Pegasus to The Milk Maiden’s Voyage. Bodius painted the new name on the ship using a brush crafted from Faf’s beard, the D’Gnarwhalush.

As Bodius was hauled back aboard, the dragon turtle Aremag appeared and demanded payment for passage into the Bay of Chult. Faf refused to pay, so the party gagged him and took 200 gp from him, the bare minimum tribute. Isilrod flattered Aremag with a song as the money passed hand to flipper. Aremag accepted the payment but used his tail to destroy the Pegasus figurehead.

Dr. Aubrey then shared what Calypso had shown him: three images that might know the Death Curse’s location in the Chultan jungle: a red dragon, a medusa, and an eagleman.

The party solved Calypso’s riddle, “the candle to the milk shall show you the way,” and discovered Balm Bitdoom’s gifts were magical. Bodius named his cloak Hyperspectral. Faf named his axe Debt Collector. Isilrod named his crossbow Jim Henson. All three items felt powerful but dormant.

Dr. Aubrey revealed that his wife, Mina Aubrey, was afflicted with vampirism back in Baldur’s Gate. He believed the cure required a dragon’s heart, tears of an angel, and faerie breast milk. Bonzo gave him a cup of faerie milk toward the cure.

The newly named Milk Maiden’s Voyage then crested into the Bay of Chult.
