Shadowfang Keep

Limited Wyrmheart provenance study: one empty iron minecart on rails circling a central stone column, with stone galleries, arched openings, timber bracing, fixed flames, and a red-lit chasm; exact cart, architecture, lighting, and rail layout are unconfirmed, while Shadowfang Keep, Jacques, Summer, the captive expedition member, and the recovered history are not depicted

Region: The Basin / Aldani Basin Status: Active destination

Keep in the Aldani Basin named by Jacques LaFleur in Session 12. The black-eyed Vesper manifestation threatened to kill LaFleur’s captured companion there, probably the “Grackles” from Shago’s note.

LaFleur believes the same shadow-and-mist force that destroyed his earlier death-curse expedition may be tied to Shadowfang Keep. He fears the Aldani civilization around the southern Basin may have been damaged or decimated there.

In Session 13, LaFleur and Summer Mooneyham continued toward Shadowfang by steamboat while the player party split off for Wyrmheart Mine. Session 15’s table recap places LaFleur and Summer at an Aldani village waiting to raid the keep with the party. Because this recap refines the earlier route without depicting them directly, their exact position remains subject to confirmation.

The party recovered _The History of Shadowfang Keep_ from Wyrmheart Mine in Session 15. The book is written in Ancient Aldani and remains untranslated, but it may provide a new route or operational lead.

Open Questions

  • Confirm whether Shadowfang Keep is on the southern peninsula of the Basin.
  • Learn the formal name of the village reached in Session 17; Summer is directly encountered and reports Jacques near its Great Hall.
  • Translate The History of Shadowfang Keep.
  • Determine whether the real Vesper Ralk is there, or whether the black-fog Vesper form was only a manifestation or impostor.

Session 17 Lead

At the village, Summer reports an evening council seeking support for the rescue. The shaman Shoob may translate the recovered history, but no translation is completed. A distant floating landmass was sighted in the Basin; speculation that it is the keep remains unconfirmed.
